He Was Brazilian

by John Minnock

He Was Brazilian Can’t recall his height, hair in the moonlight I remember his eyes were grey, in Rio on holiday He Was Brazilian Over all the others If I had my druthers I don’t recall he said his name I’ll never be the same Let fate cross paths On that afternoon we laughed He was sweet and elegant Like an angel heaven sent Affair after affair, he remains ever so rare What then became of him Met him on whim With the lights so dim That first moment when we met, perfect He Was Brazilian Let fate cross paths On that afternoon we laughed He was sweet and elegant Like an angel heaven sent Affair after affair, he remains ever so rare What then became of him Met him on whim With the lights so dim That first moment when we met, perfect He Was Brazilian

A new-breed vocalist who infuses diversity and modern interpretation into his shows, John Minnock first gained popularity in Boston, and is now a fixture in the jazz and cabaret scene in New York City. He is the recipient of the “Hot House Jazz 2016 Fans Decision Metropolitan Room Award” and the “2019 HotHouse/Jazzmobile Best Male Vocalist Award”.

John is releasing his fourth major album ‘Simplicity’ in May 2022 on Dot Time records (available at Dot Time, iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify), his second with the label (following “Herring Cove” also on Dot Time). On Simplicity, he is supported by a stellar rhythm section, and welcomes the return of both special guest National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master and Grammy-nominee Dave Liebman, and legendary composer and EGOT-nominee David Shire, who provides a new song.

Mr. Minnock has played at the finest cabaret clubs in New York, including the Metropolitan Room, the Triad Theater, iconic Don’t Tell Mama, and most recently at the stellar Feinstein’s/54 Below with Dave Liebman. John debuts at Birdland this April!

A classically trained musician, John’s vocalizing recalls the likes of Billy Eckstein, Theo Bleckmann, Steve Tyrell and Jamie Cullum. His wide repertoire of song renditions spans classic artists like King, Ruth Brown and Bill Withers to original songs composed for the albums, and now show-pieces in the live production.

John leads a trio of accomplished musicians and keeps the energy moving throughout the evening. Before bringing his show to NYC, John performed weekly at Boston’s Encore Lounge, in one of the most successful jazz gigs in Boston. The show was chosen as a “Featured Event” by The Boston Globe several times during its run. Previously, John performed in the group “Feed the Meter”. Born and raised in Albany, he has a degree in music from Boston University.
